The Challenge

Most SEO crawlers are cloud-based SaaS tools that require uploading sensitive client website data to external servers. For agencies handling enterprise clients in regulated industries — finance, healthcare, government — this creates compliance risks and data governance concerns. Existing desktop alternatives were either outdated, limited to basic checks, or prohibitively expensive for small agencies. There was a clear gap for a modern, privacy-first crawler that runs entirely on the user's machine while matching the depth of cloud-based tools.

The Solution

I built Crawlix as a cross-platform desktop application using Electron and React, ensuring it runs natively on Windows, Mac, and Linux without requiring any server infrastructure. The crawler performs 97+ technical SEO checks across on-page elements, meta tags, structured data, internal linking, image optimization, and Core Web Vitals. It processes pages concurrently using a multi-threaded crawl engine built on Node.js worker threads, achieving speeds comparable to cloud crawlers. Key features include white-label PDF report generation for client deliverables, AI search readiness scoring that evaluates how well pages are optimized for AI-powered search engines, and a SQLite-backed local database for instant historical comparison between crawls. All data stays on the user's machine — zero telemetry, zero cloud dependencies.
